Weed oil from the cannabisplant - Everything you need to know about this oil with THC!

Many people struggle to find good quality information about THC products and with so many resources available online, it can be overwhelming to know who to trust. Both CBD and THC have a wide range of applications and can be thought of as sister molecules. This has led the public to often (mistakenly) confuse them. Here, we aim to provide information that is accurate, of high quality and easy to read.

Designations such as weed oil and CBD oil are sometimes used interchangeably, and we’ve also noticed that many websites offer less-than-accurate information. Such websites are best avoided. Our mission is to communicate in clear language that our clients can easily understand.

The most important difference between weed oil and CBD oil lies in the fact that they contain different active compounds. While CBD, which is also known as cannabidiol, has a high percentage of CBD, tetrahydrocannabinol – or THC – is known for its high concentration of THC. Although both oils can be extracted from the same plant, CBD is often derived from hemp, while THC is commonly extracted from the cannabis plant. Often confused with weed, hemp won’t get you high due to its negligible THC content, even though it’s similar to the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant, on the other hand, does contain high concentrations of CBD, and is often cultivated for recreational use.

Both CBD and THC are compounds in weed, but while THC gets you high, CBD doesn’t. Weed oil ranges in potency between 1 and 8%, and while CBD oil can’t get you high, it does often contain trace amounts of THC, which are low enough (0.2%) to be lawful. This is due to the fact that CBD oil is generally extracted from the hemp plant, which contains very low concentrations of THC. Thus, industrial hemp cultivation is legal within the Netherlands, in alignment with EU regulations. Because CBD oil only contains negligible amounts of THC, CBD oil does not fall under the Dutch Opium Act. Possession, sale, cultivation, and trade are therefore legal. Weed oil, on the other hand, is illegal because it has significant amounts of THC.

The active ingredients in weed oil

The female cannabis plant is easy to recognize from its little hairs. The tips of these specialized plant hairs secrete a certain liquid that is chock-full of active compounds called cannabinoids, which are a collective group of compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors. Today, some of the most well-known cannabinoids are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). The former is known for its psychoactive properties and is often used for recreational purposes. There are many different chemical compounds synthesized by the cannabis plant, and about 70 of those are cannabinoids, all of which are similar but different to THC. There is evidence that cannabinoids in various forms, including CBD, can ease certain symptoms, and that they provide a wide variety of medicinal and therapeutic health benefits. Researchers have isolated and identified a number of other cannabinoids, including CBG, CBN, THC, CBC, and 8-THC. The so-called entourage effect occurs when there a synergistic interaction of these cannabinoids takes place, i.e. when they together within your body’s endocannabinoid system and become more effective.

Terpenes are a group of active compounds produced alongside cannabinoids like THC and CBD. They have been found to have a range of medicinal and therapeutic benefits in their own right, as they can enhance the other health benefits of the cannabis plant. While cannabis contains a plethora of other active ingredients and compounds, these are only present in trace amounts. More research is needed to evaluate their effects and potential benefits.

Weed oil or CBD oil?

The cannabis plant is rich in various substances and compounds that can be used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes. These substances are extracted from the cannabis plant and subsequently blended with a neutral oil like hemp seed or olive oil. Medicinal cannabis oil contains various cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD. Since the precise number of cannabinoids in the final product largely depends on the strain and the cannabinoid profile, its chemical composition can vary per batch, as not every cannabis plant contains the same amount of active substances.

Because weed oil contains large amounts of THC, it’s not lawful. CBD oil, on the other hand, contains very little THC. Rather, it contains a plethora of CBD, which is completely legal.

Different types of THC

There are different types of THC, which means that not every type of THC has the same effect. In total, there are about 10 different types of THC, all of which differ in terms of their chemical composition. Due to these differences, one type of THC can have a completely different effect than another type would have.

So what is weed oil exactly?

In the Netherlands, cannabis can be used for medical purposes. There are about 15,000 people in the Netherlands who use medicinal cannabis to relieve chronic pain symptoms and other health issues. However, they must first acquire a prescription: as medical cannabis is still a controlled substance and falls under the Opium Act, its production and sale are restricted to medicinal use only. CBD oil, on the other hand, has a negligible THC content and is thus completely legal.

Who actually produces and manufactures weed oil?

Cannabis in the Netherlands is illegal but has been decriminalized for personal use. Medicinal cannabis is, however, available from Dutch pharmacies if you have an official prescription, which can be hard to acquire given the fact that the government imposes rather strict conditions for eligibility. Bedrocan is the only company licensed by the Dutch Ministry of Health to produce cannabis, which is also exported to other countries within Europe.

Buying weed oil

Why is weed oil illegal?

The Dutch Opium Act prohibits the possession, commercial distribution, and production of certain substances, including cannabis. The Act distinguishes between “hard drugs” (schedule I) and “soft drugs” (schedule II). Products containing more than 0.2 percent THC fall under schedule II and are thus illegal. Products with more than 0.2 percent THC may, under certain circumstances, be prescribed by doctors or pharmacists. They remain subject to stringent control, however, and in practice, it is very difficult for patients to obtain medical cannabis oil due to the extensive bureaucratic procedures and constraints.

Is weed oil a fad?

Most definitely not! We are very pleased to have heard and encountered many success stories all over the internet. However, we would like to stress that it’s crucial to find information that helps correctly answer your specific questions before diving into the world of medical cannabis. Although THC is famed for its psychoactive effects, and people have said that it helps them experience a pleasant euphoria and sense of relaxation, there are risks associated with using too much THC. That’s why it’s important to stay informed and educated.

Because cannabis oil can be used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes, it can (in rare cases) be prescribed by doctors and physicians. These concentrated oils containing THC are not freely available for purchase, however. CBD oil, however – which contains less than 0.2 percent THC – has been legal in the Netherlands and most other European countries for some time. The endocannabinoid system

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of 104 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids that can be found in the cannabis plant. While THC – which is another chemical compound produced by the cannabis plant – and CBD share a number of important characteristics, there is a marked difference between the two. While CBD is completely non-psychoactive, THC can produce an effect that is commonly referred to as a “high”. Unlike THC, which is psychotropic, CBD is a cannabinoid that doesn’t make people “high.” On the contrary: CBD on its own has completely different effects that we will explain below.
